A work (along with all of Kafka’s works) and a character, that spoke with particular poignancy to the cold war generation, that grew up crawling out of fall out shelters, had nightmares about Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and went to bed praying the world would not be blown up, the night of the Cuban missile crisis.
