The silent screen stars, the first Hollywood stars, so innocent, so confused, a new art form, a new industry, that swept America by storm, and helped to create the 20th century. My parents, who were not into fan-dom, who did not keep posters or collect autographs, knew all of their names. These new stars became cultural heroes in a way that will probably never be duplicated.

With this work I have tried to capture some of that beauty, some of that poignancy, some of that sense of bewilderment. My model could have been any one of dozens of actresses from dozens of movies.

I hope you enjoy this work! It is a tribute and a memory.
