Bannerman Island
home of castles and legends
a floating treasure
in the midst of the Hudson

**********************************

Bannerman Island is a legendary island that sits in the middle of the Hudson River up around West Point and Cornwall On The Hudson. It has a castle and a very interesting history! I hope to write more about it in the days to come.

We scaled, chiseled, resisted the wall
for so many years
and finally it collapsed
of its own weight

Today bombs are falling
in the East again
and we ask ourselves
with bewildered desperation –

Where did we go wrong?

Where did we go wrong?

Hudson River March 8 2021 – Photography by Phil Gennuso Arts

March vistas
two thousand twenty-one,
the beautiful serenity
of a riverside morning,

Today,
stunned and confused
by the chaos of our times,
we can only say with sadness,
what a difference
a year can make.

Bob Dole, HISTORY, Patriot, RIP, WW II

In memory of Bob Dole, a Patriot for all times. After being seriously injured in WW II, he lived to be 98 years old! A distinguished, productive life!

RIP Bob Dole.

Refugees streaming across the seas,
no longer part of your past,
not yet a part of your future,
caught in a no man’s land,
without respite, without relief;

But families will grow stronger,
and prayers will become more resolute,
and the spirit of your ancestors
will prevail in your new home;

Their many gifts,
passed down through the ages,
and your persistent efforts,
will be appreciated at last,
and we all will reap and share
the bounty of your harvest,
and the beauty of your discoveries.

Zarifa Ghafari 27 Year Old Afghan Mayor forced to flee Afghanistan to save her life

Zarifa Ghafari, the 27 year old mayor of a jurisdiction outside of Kabul, was forced to flee Afghanistan with her husband in order to save her life. Her dad, sadly, was not as fortunate. This may very well be an ominous foretaste for what may happen to the many Afghan women who took advantage of the original defeat of the Taliban, to develop their own lives, according to their own plans, without the oppressive set of rules imposed on women by the Taliban.

*****************************************

Today, August 31, is the day of American withdrawal from Afghanistan. Sadly not every American and not every Afghani and not every foreigner who wants to leave is out. In my opinion we should not have left in the first place.

One of the reasons we created an all volunteer Armed Services, is that if you do not think the missions are worth your sacrifice, you do not have to join. There were no massive protests demanding the US leave Afghanistan so prematurely. And everyone knew it would be premature.

At the very least there should have been Congressional hearings.

Foreign policy belongs to all 50 states, not just to the President and Presidential Party.

With that said, if we were going to leave and abandon the Afghan people, at least we should have stayed until everyone who wanted to leave had a chance to leave. Period.

August 31, 2021 will be a day we will never forget. I know I won’t.
