Max Beckmann, German artist, 1884-1950, who migrated to the
United States in the last few years of his life. A towering figure of
the first half of the twentieth century, his paintings offer a unique
perspective on Modernism, combining Representational Art with
his own blend of subject matter and Modernist techniques.
