Phil Gennuso Arts – Done in the style of the great modern artist Sol LeWitt (1928-2007)

carefully woven
over a lifetime
a true story lovingly told

***********************

This print is done in the style of artist Sol LeWitt (1928-2007). It also is a tribute to the art of weaving, an ancient art, well practiced for many, many generations. And I think the colors chosen, fit into the temper of the season!

Best Wishes!

Max Beckmann as a young man with a beard.

Max Beckmann, German artist, 1884-1950, who migrated to the
United States in the last few years of his life. A towering figure of
the first half of the twentieth century, his paintings offer a unique
perspective on Modernism, combining Representational Art with
his own blend of subject matter and Modernist techniques.

The Eight by UK artist, Cyril Power (1872-1951) Linocut 1930

The Eight, a linocut, which depicts an overhead view of rowers racing along the Thames in preparation for the annual Head of the River Race—an image the artist saw from Hammersmith Bridge, located near his London studio.

Co-founded the Grosvenor School of Modern Art in London in 1925. He was also a successful architect and teacher.

A classic Modernist print, with strong lines, and beautiful, bold colors, capturing the motions of strength, and grace, typical of the sport of Rowing.

Goergia O’Keeffe

Celebrating women this week in honor of Internatinal Women’s Day, March 8, 2020!

Iconic American artist, Georgia O’Keeffe! It is hard to imagine that at one time she was not considered a major artist of the early and mid twentieth century.

Her style often blends Modernist techniques with her own life, and her love of natural landscapes. Flowers are certainly one of her favorite subjects. This work, Petunias #2, blends coloration, geometric design, and perspective, all in a fanciful way to capture the simple beauty of petunias, flowers which we see and experience very year. It is decorative, yes, almost in an Arts & Crafts kind of way, but it also scintillates with that special magic Georgia O’Keeffe often imparts with her unique styling.

For those who might be interested, I created a letter size print based on this painting, that came out well. You can check it out here:

Celebrating women this week in honor of Internatinal Women’s Day, March 8, 2020!

Artist, socialite, fashion icon, Tamara de Lempicka, lit up the art world in the 1920s with her unique brand of Art Deco styling. Many critics dismissed her, some even to this day, but her works continue to shine and inspire.

This particular work, “Green Veil”, painted somewhere in the early 1920s (probably 1924), shows some of her techniques. The influences of Cezanne, and Cubism, the bold brush strokes, the almost sculpture like design of the face, all exhibit the type of styling Lempicka used at this point in her career.

For those who might be interested, I created a letter size print based on this painting, that quite frankly, came out better than I anticipated. You can check it out here:
