Today is Palm Sunday, the first day of Holy Week for Christians throughout the world. It has been celebrated and commemorated for many centuries, as have other sacred traditions from other religions from all parts of the world.
This year to me the messages of Holy Week are simple and direct.
First, I give thanks that the terrible pandemic seems to be slowly fading from the world scene, even though people are still getting infected and need to be careful.
Second, I pray the violence around the world stops and the parties involved come to peaceful resolutions.
Third, I hope that politicians of all stripes concentrate on resolving the common issues facing humanity, rather than tearing each other down.
And lastly, the great pledges, Faith, Hope, and Charity. These are great words to live by. And Holy Week is a great time to recommit to these goals.
These will be my prayers and meditations for Holy Week this year.
I wish everyone a peaceful, thoughtful Palm Sunday.
