in noticeable spots,
lots, riversides, municipal outposts,
ready to do their owners bidding
at the turn of a switch,

scrapped, hammered, bumped,
cursed at, left silent, and alone,
until their last days,

fated to appear and disappear
like traveling birds in shifting winds,
without ever finding a place
to call their own,

ubiquitous remnants of wintertime,
heroes when the storms arrive,
